Submessages is a speculative design project, made during a one-week workshop at Politecnico di Milano.

The dystopic scenario is set in 2073, where climate change has made the surface unlivable.

A private corporation starts to invest in creating a new residential neighbourhood underground with new infrastructure, housing, and services, where the climatic conditions guarantee a greater state of health and well-being for who can afford it, accentuating social differences more and more.

Communities on the surface start to organize themselves around the existing social centres which try to offer the missing services through circular economy systems, redevelopment of spaces and an overall horizontal self-sustaining organization.
